Advertising jewelry is expensive! Get the most for your money by following two simple photography guidelines. First, keep your ads clean and simple. Second, get in close! I spent over a decade running full page color ads with thousands of silver beads and gold vermeil beads carefully arranged to form gorgeous images of Buddhas and Dragons. People loved the ads and remembered our name, but one day I realized that most people who saw our ads had no idea what product we sold! Now we stay focused. Our photographs feature just a few of the thousands of silver pendants or silver jewelry findings in our line. What is your experience with jewelry ads?
Nina,
great tips again. Presentation of your work is so key to branding your business. Brand your business for the customers you think are best suited to your product! If your jewelry is modern, have a modern design for your ads. If you are about exotic materials, your ad could have an exotic flavor. Keep photos clear and don’t forget to give customers a way to reach you, whether it’s a website or phone number or email.

Hi Nina,
I agree, simplicity is best. I find if you give buyers too many choices they have difficulty making up their minds and get confused, only to buy nothing at all. I have also come to realize that it is best to design the jewelry yourself and then allow them to customize it, if they ask (i.e. length, color etc.) I do not give them this option when selling but I do offer this option if they show interest. Keep it simple.
