Bead Night at Nina Designs!

Fall Leaves Prize Charm Bracelet
In this contest each of us selected one of our Themed Collections as the basis of our jewelry design. The one requirement was that the main focus of our design had to be jewelry findings from our chosen collection. With so many wonderful Themed Collections, the hardest part really was choosing just one! We were given two weeks and even had one Bead Night to work together. Some finished in record time, others not until the last minute, but we all had fun. And every one of us loves what she made and can’t wait to wear it out. We hope you have as much fun perusing our jewelry designs as we had making them.
Don’t forget to vote for a chance to win the Fall Leaves charm bracelet.

Overstock and discontinued silver charms and other silver jewelry supplies are a steal! We have not raised prices on these items. Some discontinued styles were originally priced when silver was $14/oz. They are further discounted up to 60%. An item that was originally $1 would normally be selling for $1.60 today. Instead, you can buy it for $0.40. That is a 75% discount!! Needless to say, these items are selling out fast.
We have been getting calls from customers who think our overstock item prices are listed wrong on the website, but those low prices are correct. We won’t increase the price on overstock items to current silver price levels until we sell through the extra stock. In the meantime, you can save 40% off the old price. Items that would be priced at $1.60 today are selling as low as $0.75. That is 47% below current price levels.
These amazing deals won’t last. Stock up while we still have stock!

This gorgeous clasp is 60% off!

Now 40% off!
These new Silver Pendant Medallions were inspired by ancient coins. The first pendant features two dolphins. In ancient Greece, seeing dolphins riding in a ship’s wake was considered a good omen. The Pegasus image is based on a coin from Corinth in Greece. With its beautiful symbolism of flight and spirit, the Pegasus was a very popular image on Greek coins. The owl is the symbol of the goddess Athena, and was widely used on coins from Athens. With bountiful silver mines, Athenian coins contained full weight of the best silver, making them popular throughout the Greek world. The “owl” coin represented quality and value.

Like pirate's treasure, these new medallion pendants feature images from ancient coins and will be available in mid-December
The Pegasus pendant is my favorite! I plan on making a necklace using it with blue-green gemstones. These silver pendant medallions will be available in mid-December.
Nina Designs offers many different jewelry making supplies and with Nina and Leah constantly designing there are always lots of exciting new jewelry findings to invigorate your designs. One of my current favorites is the coral branch silver charm. I just love it’s natural branching and textured surface. Like many designers, I love the organic form of coral branches, and this one looks like the real thing. Plus it just works on so many levels – as earrings and multi-layered necklaces. I love using it in designs with lots of tangled chains.

My current favorite Nina Designs part
As you know, we implemented a significant price increase today. We tried to lighten the blow by giving everyone a weeks notice. Unfortunately, during that time, the price of silver increased steeply once again. As a result, we have had to increase prices 28% instead of the previously announced 20%. We apologize for this. The market has clearly gone insane. We hope we won’t have to raise prices again for awhile, but all indicators point to higher and higher prices.

Silver continues its steep climb.
We all need to hold on tight as silver shifts from an everyday product to an affordable luxury. It may take some time for consumers to accept this shift, but many large multi-national companies like Tiffany’s are pouring advertising dollars into the effort. Gold is increasing as quickly as silver, pricing many people out of the market. These customers are already responding to silver’s appeal as an affordable precious metal.
We will continue to work hard to provide you with amazing designs and helpful marketing ideas in the months to come.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
I would like to sing the praises of a newly introduced silver earring top that is under-appreciated. Often some of our best jewelry parts originate from the need to fill a void and this is the case with T2581. When designing and making earrings, I occasionally have a dangle with a fixed jumpring that I’d like to hang from an earwire. If the circle of the jumpring faces forward, I can hang the dangle on my favorite basic earwire. But when the jumpring’s edge faces forward, I need an earring top with an un-soldered loop with the circle side facing forward. So voila, T2581!
This new earring top is a great basic addition to our collection: it’s delicate, simple, and with an forward facing open loop, we now have earring tops that will work with all jumpring scenarios! Are there other basics that you’d like to see us carry? Or do we have an existing design that you’d like to see tweaked slightly for improved performance?

With an unsoldered loop, this new earwire works great for dangles with perpendicular jumprings.

Silver earring tops with forward facing jumprings neatly complete these jade earrings. I oxidized the earrings and wire for a darker, rustic look.

Silver up 27%
Once again, the price of silver is surging upwards at a dizzying pace. It has risen over 27% in seven short weeks. After years of getting tossed about by volatile silver prices, I thought I had seen it all but this latest advance is even more extreme, eclipsing the spring of 2008 and taking silver to a new 30 year high. Even as we scramble to adjust, silver shows no signs of slowing its steep ascent. Today’s price may seem cheap next month. Conversely, we could see a sharp fall in prices if speculators decide to cash in on their profits. Amidst the uncertainty, we have to take it one day at a time.
Silver prices are influenced by many factors including the price of gold, demand from investment funds, the value of the dollar and industrial demand. Click here for a more detailed explanation.
I have learned from past experience that it takes time for the public to adjust to sudden increases in the cost of silver. The lower end of the market will inevitably migrate toward cheaper alternatives. Nevertheless, as some people are priced out of silver jewelry, others are priced out of gold. In response, there is a trend to accept silver as the sister precious metal to gold. Major retailers like Tiffany are pouring money into campaigns to persuade the public that silver is both precious and a good investment.
I realize that our price increase announced this week is steep and poorly timed (20% increase for silver and 26% increase for gold plate, effective October 18th, 2010). I want you to know that I would not have done it if I had any alternative. All we can do, together, is create jewelry so beautiful that women will want it at any price! Thank you for your business and for your understanding.
Halloween is a great time for fun sterling silver pendants, silver charms, and sterling vermeil jewelry. Each year I look forward to creating my Halloween jewelry with sterling silver pendants. I love the opportunity to dress in a crazy costume and get all dressed up for parties adorned in my funky Halloween earrings, bracelet and or necklace. I am fortunate to be able to dress in a costume at work, but for those who can’t, wearing sterling silver Halloween jewelry can be a great way to celebrate the festivities.

Happy Halloween from the entire gang!
I just rediscovered my favorite earrings featuring silver skull charms and it got my creative juices flowing. Our sterling silver branch pendant with its gnarly knotted limbs would be a great starting point to add-on spirited silver charms. The silver kitty charm, silver snake charm, and silver tree pendantsare some of our newest additions. and Many items are available in both sterling silver and sterling vermeil such as our skull charms, owl charms, and key charms. Most of these silver pendants and charms can be put together into one piece to form quite a motley crew, which I could wear throughout the year!
Halloween jewelry can be spooky, creepy, ghostly, spirited and most of all, fun. Delight in celebrating this holiday in your own special way by creating morbidly elegant jewelry that will get eyes popping!
What shocking jewelry will you be making for Halloween?

Alpine Chic Necklace
I couldn’t wait to incorporate our NEW Bear and Tiger claw pendants into my Alpine Chic Look for Fashion Friday. For me Alpine Chic brings to mind the three L’s: Lavish, Leather and Layers! Alpine fashion incorporates a few of my favorite fashion trends: men’s wear for women, and good ol’ vintage flair. With a distinct draw from men’s wear and family-friendly handmade knits, Alpine fashion trend straddles the line between kitsch and haute couture. You can layer your dad’s chunky fair isle sweater from the 70’s over a high waisted wool skirt (a la Dior circa 1950), belt it all together, add some beautiful leather boots (fur optional) and voila – you’re runway or ski lodge ready! Definitely my favorite winter look.
One thing I like best about this trend is the playful woodland aspect. Jewelry and accessories can be a great avenue to play up the kitschy side or get a little more creative with your look. We have an adorable array of woodland creatures silver charms, but as I said I was inspired by the three L’s. So I chose to combine leather cord, heavy silver chains, and mother of pearl claw pendants that I love and dainty pink pearls. The look is extravagant but wearable. Tough, with a touch of classic femininity.
What are some of your favorite winter fashion trends?
