Bead Night at Nina Designs!
In this contest each of us selected one of our Themed Collections as the basis of our jewelry design. The one requirement was that the main focus of our design had to be jewelry findings from our chosen collection. With so many wonderful Themed Collections, the hardest part really was choosing just one! We were given two weeks and even had one Bead Night to work together. Some finished in record time, others not until the last minute, but we all had fun. And every one of us loves what she made and can’t wait to wear it out. We hope you have as much fun perusing our jewelry designs as we had making them.
Don’t forget to vote for a chance to win the Fall Leaves charm bracelet.
Ocean Collection
Reef-Raff Earrings: Inspired by the movement of a coral reef, these flowing earrings are perfect for any mermaid headed out for a splashing good time! Wear them to pearl’s night out and your friends will fish they were you!

Good Luck Collection
I’ve been feeling like I could use some more good luck lately, so to give me a boost I chose the “Good Luck” Special Collection. I decided to make a ring so I can wear it everyday. I can pretty much wear any additional jewelry without having to match the ring because it’s a small accessory. Now I’ll be lucky everyday!
Aviary Collection
When designing my necklace I was inspired by the little bird links and the many different styles and techniques used by the other
artists in the office. I wanted to try using oxidized silver and leather. This is the design I came up with, which I am very excited
about wearing.
Heart Collection
I love virtually every headpin, spacer, charm and pendant that we carry but I usually steer clear of hearts, since they are sometimes viewed as saccharine or sappy. This challenge gave me an opportunity to expand my notion of what heart themed jewelry could be. I was happy with my flirty and festive earrings, and can’t wait to wear them around town!
Globe Trotter Collection
I chose Globe Trotter because I wanted to make a pair of earrings with a lot of movement and that are versatile enough for backpacking or to go out dancing. I embedded the pagoda charm within intersecting orbs of gold and silver links to provide energy and motion.
Lifelike Leaves Collection
I’ve always wanted to try combining glittery, faceted gemstones with ancient glass – could they be mixed without clashing? The realistic leaves add to the texture and complete the forest color scheme.
Marcasite Collection
I recently bought a strand of beautiful moss aquamarines and wanted to make a necklace to wear during the holidays. Our marcasite beads were perfect for adding a little vintage inspired sparkle to my necklace and the emerald green ribbon added a nice lush texture.
Black Satin Collection
I was inspired by the black satin collection because I love the color. It reminds me of graphite. The marquis shaped links are like a lines in a pattern I might draw with a nice, soft B2 pencil on newsprint.
Woodland Collection
For my woodland earrings, I imagined a dark forest with sprawling tree branches swathed in mossy vines.
Yoga Spirit Collection
I love the blue-gold flashes of light within labrodorite beads. They look so pretty paired with silver and with gold. I love that! I chose to make stretchy bracelets because they’re easy and comfortable just like yoga wear!

I LOVE the woodland collection earings. The density of “moss” and the sparse branch hoops are a great contrast.

I am completely infatuated with the Lifelike Leaves Collection necklace! I love the colors and the eclectic but cohesive natural look of the piece. A quick sidenote, I’m wearing one of Nina’s gold leaf charms today

I like the “clean” lines of the Globe Trotter earrings. The two-tone design makes them easy to match with other jewelry (be it silver or gold), and the intersecting orbs give them lots of movement, thus creating an eye-catching piece. Add to that little pagodas, and everybody would think these earrings came from some obscure ethnic shop in the Far East. Great job!

i love the lifelike leaves piece- all the different elements look fabulous together
Comment by April — October 29, 2010 @ 3:59 pm
I love the Yoga Spirit collection. I just love the beads and how they sparkle. And it is a piece that I would wear often.
Comment by Stacey — October 29, 2010 @ 7:52 pm
I think the earrings from the Heart Collection are my favorite. I kind of echo the designer’s comments about steering clear of hearts because of the saccharine quality that they have and sometimes how much of a cliche they can be in any sort of design, but with the mix of colors and movement, these earrings are just beautiful!!!
Comment by Beth — October 29, 2010 @ 8:02 pm
The Ocean Collection earrings are super cool. Perfect beach vacation earrings with a breezy sundress!
Comment by Jennifer at Shop Cancerversary — October 29, 2010 @ 8:12 pm
LUV the Globe Trotter Collection! How cute is the little pagoda & the combination of silver & gold is wonderful!
Comment by Susan Spiers — October 29, 2010 @ 8:35 pm
I like the clean and simple lines of the Globe Trotter earrings. They have a sophisticated, fun look you can wear with jeans and a T-shirt or with a tailored outfit for work. And I like the serene quality of the circles moving separately yet staying together on the same axis.
Comment by Heidi — October 29, 2010 @ 10:09 pm
Hmmm, it is tough to pick just one, but my vote goes for the Globe Trotter earrings. I love the gold and silver together and the movement of the rings. I know that was already said, but that really is what I like about them too!

The woodland collection earrings are my favorite! Did you know that bees have many positive symbolic meanings? For example, we have the “queen bee” also known as the great mother, bees create perfect hexagons with their honeycombs suggesting they help bring underlying order to the cosmos. I have also been told by one of my customers that bees are a sign of a miracle becuase their wings are too small to support their big bodies, but they are able to fly anyway. Bees are only attracted to what is sweet (remember this if you have ever been stung) and the honey they make never goes bad and can be used to treat multiple ailments! Bees indeed are a great charm to incorporate into jewelry design because they mean so many wonderful things. I use this little charm a TON because who wouldn’t want to feel like the “queen bee” when wearing my jewelry?

I love the Heart Collection! The mixture of silver and vermeil with the wrapped beads is beautiful. I feel the same way about steering away from hearts, but this design changed my mind.

I never tire of the ocean, and love the long, fluid design of the Ocean Collection. It may be Fall, but, that’s when the ocean is best around here!
Comment by Kathy — November 1, 2010 @ 10:32 pm
I love the heart collection earrings. I usually stay away from hearts in my designs too but there is something about the centerpiece of this design and I love the use of the teardrop link as a frame.

I love the Yoga Spirit Collection. The colors and textures look amazing togther. It makes me think of something you would see on a Budha statue as an offering. I have been doing yoga for eight years now and don’t wear very much in the way of jewlery beacause it can be so uncomfortable. If this is a comfortable as it looks I would wear it all the time.
Comment by Sherri Pohlman — November 3, 2010 @ 11:13 am

Comment by Kathy — November 3, 2010 @ 11:36 am
I LOVE the Black Satin Collection leather cuff with the orange carneleans. It’s elegant and edgy at the same time. And it would add just the right pop of color to everything from jeans and tee shirt/boots outfit to a classic little black dress. Amazing!
Comment by Susan Cross — November 3, 2010 @ 11:52 am
I like the marcasite collection. My grandmother had a necklace with marcasite in it, so I lean toward that design. I have the necklace, maybe I will redo it now.

I love the Lifelike Leaves collection! The leaves, bits of colored glass and gems make it a stand out! The different textures and shapes really set it apart. Great job!
Comment by Aly Aposto — November 3, 2010 @ 12:39 pm
I loved so many of the pieces today but especially loved the Aviary collection, for two reasons. The blue stones remind me of the arctic blue sea that is now in front of my home and the birds represent the lovely birds that call this arctic sea their home. The gold and silver combo rocks! Great job!
Comment by Sonia Rodriguez — November 3, 2010 @ 1:02 pm
