NEW Themed Collections help you find just the silver charm you want

You can find many of these charms in the Globe Trotter Collection

Here at Nina Designs we create silver charms and pendants that we hope inspire you to create beautiful jewelry. But really that’s just half the story. We also work hard to make sure you can easily find and order those silver charms you are looking for. Because Nina Designs is filled with thousands of jewelry components, sometimes that can be tricky.

That’s why we created the NEW Themed Collections page. There you can find all kinds of silver charms, earrings, pendants, and clasps that cluster around particular themes. If you like to design jewelry that tells a story, you’ll this feature. Suppose you’re a hopeless romantic who loves exploring beaches. Then you’ll want to go straight to the Hearts, Love Letters, and Ocean Collections to find just the thing for that necklace you have in mind. Or suppose you want to tell a story of a young entomologist who wants to travel the world searching for cool insects. Then we’d suggest perusing the Globe Trotter and Insect Collections. Whatever story you’d like to tell, the Themed Collections will help you find the words.

To date, we have 20 Themed Collections planned, everything from Aviary to Yoga Spirit, and Ocean to Woodlands. We sincerely hope you enjoy shopping every one. And, if there is any additional themed category you’d like to see or any other type of shopping improvement you’d suggest, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment.

Jewelery Findings ~ Get Them While They are HOT!

Mermaid's Dive Necklace

In my most recent reviews of our jewelery findings inventory, I have noticed a trend towards pieces with an ocean theme. Sales have spiked for items such as the sweet little sea-horse charm in silver and in gold, the seashell charm and the small mermaid charm. Could this be due to the changing weather? Maybe designers are anticipating sales for their clients that come through and purchase items during their summer travels? Regardless of the cause, I have taken note of this trend and will respond by increasing our on-hand inventory to meet the needs of our customers. I will also review our on-hand quantities of other ocean themed items that may not have shown up in my inventory review just to be sure that those are completely stocked as well. Get them while they are hot so that you don’t miss out and I will also do my best to make sure that we won’t run out! How do you respond to trends that you notice in your orders?

Our Silver Charms on TV!

Filed under: Behind the Scenes — Tags: , , nina @ 8:47 am

Silver Charms took me to Ohio recently to tape a segment for the PBS Show: Beads, Baubles and Jewels. It was my first time in front of a TV camera but fortunately, I had just finished taping several how-to videos for our website so I had some practice trying to sound and act normal under the lights. I won’t say I wasn’t nervous (Yikes!) but the silver charms looked gorgeous and our segment went smoothly. I even made and presented the host, Katina Forte, with a charm necklace of her own.  She chose the charms and I slipped them onto one of our popular charm holders.

One of the best parts of being invited to participate in the TV show was the opportunity to hang out with a gaggle of marvelous women. Producer Kathy Stull was a power house, talking us newbies through every step, filming enough episodes for an entire season in just a few days and making it all look easy! Editor in Chief of Beadwork Magazine, Marlene Blessing, and Editor in Chief of Step by Step Beads, Leslie Rogalski, were at the studio filming a marathon. Each one had multiple projects they were demonstrating for the show. I can’t believe how much these ladies pack into their professional suitcase! They do Television, travel to shows, create online content AND edit their magazines. I met up with them toward the end of their week and they were still laughing and having fun. What great role models!

Drawer of Curiosities: Organizing Jewelry Findings and Beading Supplies

I love beads and all sorts of jewelry findings! Being in the jewelry industry I attend many Bead and Gem trade shows. Thus my collection of jewelry supplies keeps growing into a cornucopia of vintage finds and quirky beads that I love to pair with Nina Designs jewelry findings. In order to organize an otherwise mismatch of oddities and fine silver findings, I have to be creative in categorizing them. Here is a method that works for me so that whenever I need something new and fascinating, to wear or sell, all I have to do is open my drawer of curiosities! This is what works for me!

Design Inspiration Board

Design Inspiration Board

Determine your Look:
I love period style jewelry therefore I have to organize my beading drawer like a museum curator would.

Get Inspired:
I start with an inspiration board that displays magazine cutouts and mementos from my travels.

Get Organized: I organize my beading drawer by using plastic bins and pretty boxes and I store all my silver findings individually in a plastic baggy.

Create Themes: All my silver jewelry findings and vintage pieces are organized in themes. For example, 19th century jet spacer beads are stored in the same bin along with the our Black Garnet Gemstone Beads because they emulate a Victorian era. Old patina metal components sit alongside my sterling vermeil earring parts for a medieval theme. All my jump rings, head pins, and spacer beads are stored together so that I can easily grab the essentials when needed.

What works for you?

Beading Supplies Fuel Large Jewelry Collection

Over the years, I’ve accumulated an extensive collection of beading supplies. What better to do with beading supplies than make jewelry? I have a lot of jewelry – I could probably wear a different piece of jewelry every day for six months without wearing the same thing twice! The challenge has always been how to organize my jewelry so that I can actually see what I have. For many years, I used a small jewelry box originally purchased in the early 90’s, piling blue necklaces on top of blue, and red on top of red. I had a separate earring rack, with earrings layered two to three pairs deep. The piles of necklaces and bracelets slowly outgrew the box, overflowing onto the dresser top until it looked like a volcano with rainbow hued lava had erupted in my bedroom. What could be done?

One day I was in one of my favorite boutique jewelry stores, admiring the artful display of silver pendants, and realized I could do something similar! I promptly purchased two large cork boards from Michael’s, decorated the edges using pretty ribbon and a hot glue gun, and using straight pins, started arranging and displaying my jewelry collection! The cork boards hang on the wall above my dresser, making it easier than ever to review and select the perfect jewels to match my outfits. Now if only I could organize my beading supplies as effectively!
