Add a Silver Clasp to Silk Cord or Ribbons

Wire wrapping is a great way to finish our silk cords. Below are instructions on how to wrap silver wire to the ends of the cord and hide it beneath elegant silver cones. With this technique, you can use any clasp your want, though it looks particularly nice with silver toggles.

Step 1

  • Cut a piece of 24 or 22 gauge silver wire 3" long
  • Make a 90 degree bend in the middle of the wire
  • At the bend, wrap one side around your round-nosed pliers
  • Slip the end of the silk cord into the loop you've just made

Step 2

  • Wrap the wire tightly around the silk cord, coiling it up towards the end of the silk cord.
  • Be sure you are wrapping around the longer half of the wire that is parallel to the silk cord. Pull tightly!

Step 3

  • Coil until you run our of wire.
  • Use a chain nose pliers to press the tip of the wire flush with the coil.
  • Trim the silk 1mm above the coil

Step 4

  • Slip a cone onto the wire and coax it over the coiled wire.
  • Repeat all steps on the other end of the silk cord.

Step 5

  • Wire wrap your preferred silver clasp to the silk cord using the wire tails emerging from the cones.
  • For wire wrapping directions see "Basic Wire Wrapping".
