Wire Wrap a Link

Wire wrapping links is an elegant way to build secure bracelets and necklaces. It is usually best to leave one side of each link open until you have your whole piece connected. Double check the overall length of the piece and the placement of your links before you complete the second loop on each individual link.

Tools & Materials: Silver Wire, chain nose pliers, round nose pliers, wire cutters, beads of your choosing. Click here to purchase Tools

Step 1

Cut a piece of silver wire 4 inches longer than your bead. (24 gauge wire is best, but check to be sure that it will fit through all of the beads you plan to use in your design). Bend the wire back at a right angle 2 inches from the tip.

Step 2

Wrap the wire around the nose of your pliers to form a centered loop.

Step 3

Hold the loop securely with the chain nose pliers and wrap the short tail of the wire around the longer stem twice. Keep each wrap neat and tight.

Step 4

Trim the end of the wire with the flat side of the wire cutters flush with against your wrap.

Step 5

Use the tip of your chain nose pliers to pinch the trimmed end to the wire if it is sticking up.

Step 6

Thread your bead onto the wire. Place the tip of your chain nose pliers just above the bead and bend the tail back at a right angle. This creates space for your second wire wrap.

Step 7

Wrap the wire around the tip of your round nose pliers, creating a centered loop. If you are building a longer piece of jewelry, pause here and create all of your links before you complete the second loop.

Step 8

Hold the open loop securely with your chain nose pliers and complete the wire wrap. Trim with the wire cutters and pinch the tip of the wire flush with the wrap as you did in steps 3-6.
